Have you ever had a problem with unwanted hair? Have you found yourself spending hours out of your life trying to rid yourself of this hair? This is a problem that many of us deal with, but are to embarrassed to address. If you are tired of ingrown hairs, and redness that shaving, waxing, and depilatories cause, laser hair removal could be the answer for you.
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a method of removing unwanted hair through a process called Selective Photo-Thermolysis.

How does it work?
The laser emits a very specific beam of light, targeting melanin, which is the pigment in our hair. The beam is absorbed by the dark pigment in the hair and hair follicle and converted to heat. This heat destroys the hair and associated growth structures.

Does it work for everyone?
Laser hair removal can work very effectively for almost everyone. The best candidates are fair skinned people (who have not recently tanned), with dark hair. However all skin types can be treated What this means for people with darker skin types, is that more treatments may be required to receive optimal results. Naturally blond and gray hairs often respond best to alternate forms of hair removal-namely electrolysis. Make an appointment for a free consultation and we will evaluate your skin and hair type.

Is it safe?
Yes. Thousands of people have undergone laser hair removal with very low incidence of complications. Used properly by trained professionals, it is extremely safe. Our laser is even safer than most because of the active cooling system, which protects the skin during treatment.

Why do you need multiple treatments?
Our hair grows in three different phases. Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen. In order for the laser treatment to be effective the hair must be in the anagen stage at the time of the treatment, which is the active growth phase. The treatments are usually done at four to six week intervals.

How many treatments will I need?
This is highly variable and often unpredictable, I suggest you plan on four to eight treatments, or an average of six. Those people with sub-optimal skin or hair types my require more.

What if my results are temporary?
Approximately 80% to 90% of people get very good long-term results. Approximately 10% to 20% of people experience a prolonged delay of regrowth lasting from three to six months. For these people, continued laser hair removal at periodic intervals may be a very good option. Our treatment programs are designed so the follow-ups, if needed, are available at an affordable and reduced cost.

Why do some people only experience a delay in growth?
There are many reasons for hair growth from age, ethnic background, hormonal changes, medications and many other factors. There could possibly be more severe reasons, that inspire hair to grow such as insulin resistance, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), High DHEA levels and thyroid problems. You may want to have testing done. To find out more about these conditions, contact your physician.

Does it hurt?
The laser we use in our clinic is gentler than most because of the unique system of skin cooling. Each person is individually evaluated and our laser settings will be tailored to you. Consequently, one person may feel more discomfort than another. Most people especially those that have been using other methods, such as waxing, or electrolysis, have no discomfort at all. During your free consultation, we may do some skin testing. This should alleviate any concerns you may have. If necessary, a topical anesthetic can be applied

What are the side effects?
Lasers have far fewer side effects than other systems available for the removal of unwanted hair, including IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), electrolysis and even waxing. Lasers have a very specific wavelength of light. Our system is a long pulsed alexandrite 755nm.This meaning it falls very close to infrared in the color spectrum, absorbing black and brown melanin without damaging the surrounding tissue. As long as your hair is darker than your skin, you should receive very good results, with minimal side effects. A few people experience temporary pigment changes after laser treatments (2-10%). We can minimize these temporary changes by not treating "tanned skin". A mild sunburn effect does sometimes occur, but usually subsides within a few hours following the treatment. There is no recovery time; normal activities can be resumed immediately.

What are the most common treatment areas?
Almost anywhere on the body can be treated. Common areas that women like to have treated are the underarms, bikini, face, legs, and arms. Common areas that men like to have treated are the back, shoulders, chest, abdomen, front and back of the neck. Areas such as ears, toes, fingers, sometimes get overlooked, but can be very effectively treated.

How much does it cost?
There is no charge for a consultation-just call for an appointment. However, a consultation is necessary to determine an exact cost. The cost is based upon the size and complexity of the area to be treated. Payment is required at the time of service. We do accept cash, checks, Visa, and MasterCard.

I am a middle-aged woman that put up with lots of facial hair since I was in my 20's. I spent every morning plucking and clipping the hair from my face before I went anywhere outside of my home. In June of this year, I saw an advertisement in our local paper for Essentially Bare and felt like I had found an answer to my prayers. Read more »
